Kier originally approached Create the Space to deliver a Programme for First Line Managers
Gemma completed the ILM level 3 certificate in leadership and management, delivered by Create the Space, earlier this year. The programme was delivered over an 8-month period and was made up of seven face-to-face modules. These modules allow the learners to develop a better understanding about themselves, (using Insights Discovery), their impact on others and how they can be better leaders. The programme also includes sections on what can be done to lead a safety culture in the workplace, managing teams, being more commercially aware and business improvement techniques which culminates in an improvement project that eliminates waste while maximising efficiencies.
We caught up with Gemma after she had completed her ILM programme to find out what she had learnt and what had been her biggest benefit. She told us that the biggest shock she had was reading the Insights Discovery report; she felt it was like opening a book that had been written specifically about her! She was excited to learn how she could adapt her style to get the best from others, as everyone is different and are motivated by very different things.
Completing the assignments was definitely the most challenging part of the programme for Gemma, but once she got her first result, she was motivated to put aside time to complete the remaining, without feeling guilty.
One of the main benefits that Gemma has seen is that her time management has improved, this is directly linked to her enhanced confidence in her delegation skills. Gemma has been using her new delegation skills to develop her own team. She has also discovered an increased confidence when questioning and challenging existing processes while looking for efficiencies.
We were delighted to hear that Gemma felt all of the trainers were fantastic and really good at explaining the course content. They helped her to fully understand what was required for the assignments.
Gemma’s final piece of advice – “to see the biggest increase in your own ability and benefit the most, get fully involved in the programme”.
